East Side Story

Rented a great little flick tonight called East Side Story. A film about a hispanic lad in LA trying to keep his grandmother's Mexican restaurant afloat, to me it was a nice illustration of the superficiality of homo-culture juxtaposed with the real-world concerns of just keeping a business afloat. The main character is a gay Mexican-American in LA working in his grandmother's restaurant, involved with another Hispanic male in total denial of his homosexuality, who happens upon a gay couple who has moved into the neighbourhood. One of the partners is manipulative and way too queeny, but the other is a genuinely good guy. Things get interesting and complicated, and there is some non-trivial homophobia mixed in with the whole thing, along with some complications in the flick that might lose the odd audience member, but nonetheless, it's a nice story, and a film worth a look. Not going to give away the ending, but i'd recommend it for a heart-warming story... and in general... a good film.
