The Arrow

Well, just finished watching "The Arrow", about a wonderful and sad time in Canadian history.

While touted as a docu-drama, the movie is excellent, and I think a must-see for every Canadian.

In brief, the movie tells the story of the world's fastest and most technically advanced fighter plane ever designed and built (even by today's standard --- the CF18, the most advanced aircraft today that the Canadian Air Force has, pales by comparison to what the Arrow some 50 years ago could do then!), in 1950's Canada, by Canadians, and how the project was dropped due to political pressure from the United States. It also shows how small-minded the Diefenbaker Conservative government of the time was, and how Canada, on the brink of greatness and air superiority unparalleled anywhere in the world, under dismal leadership, became a U.S. patsy. How familiar that sounds... oh save us from the Conservatives!

Dan Aykroyd, who played the part of Crawford Gordon, the CEO for Avro at the time the Arrow was being created, was also heavily involved in the making of this film. It's well put together, characters are well acted, and the story is very compelling. I found myself swearing at Diefenbaker for his stupidity, and the pettiness of his government in killing the programme.

Anyway, a must see for sure!
